In times of climate change and increasing environmental pollution, understanding how plants respond and adapt to their environment is of highest importance for our society. At the Institute for Molecular Plant Biology (IMPB), state-of-the art innovative biochemical, genetic, molecular and cell biological methods are used to investigate biological processes and signaling pathways that are essential for plant development and adaptation. Currently, new research areas such as RNA biology and stress resilience are being established. Recent research at IMPB in the area of genome precision editing allows the transfer of knowledge from model plants to optimize crop plants.
The IMPB is committed to offering a wide range of courses in German and English for bachelor and master degrees in food science, biotechnology, agricultural sciences and forestry as well as for international master’s and various doctoral programs.
With its expertise, the IMPB not only contributes to the fields of competence and the research priorities of the BOKU, but also serves the following sustainable development goals (SDGs): zero hunger (2., good health and well-being (3., quality education (4., gender equality (5., responsible consumption and production (12., climate action (13., life on land (15..
