Research Focus
The academic activities of the Institute for Biophysics profit from the merge of different backgrounds of its members (biology and biotechnology, chemistry, and physics). We are focusing mainly on basic scientific questions, which can be summarized as follows:
1. Characterization at micro and molecular scales of biological materials and its relation to function.
2. Molecular interactions at molecular and microscale.
3. Self-assembly processes involving crystal and lipid membrane formation.
4. The development of nano-patterned thin-film interfaces and nanotube
functionalization by using functional S-layer proteins
5. Implementation and application of physical and mathematical methods (AFM, Raman and IR spectroscopy, algorithm development) to the biomaterials, interface, environmental and sports sciences.
