Research Focus
The Institute of Mountain Risk Engineering considers the combination of nature and engineering in a meaningful way, thereby solving the problems regarding natural hazard protection in our cultural landscape as its duty. Integrated approaches are used to do so. The postulate of sustainability under consideration of economic, ecological and social issues is our top-most commandment. Our main research focuses on the development of solutions for current as well as future problems by using modern and scientific methods. The work at our Institute is naturally a part of various international collaborations and the connections to global projects are continuously being sought and developed. Practically orientated projects are continuously used to implement new methods by describing precise goals and tailoring the procedures along with the users. The teachings aim to provide the students the necessary knowledge to solve complex problems. In addition to the substantiated and professional training in the form of a master´s programme (M.Sc. Mountain Risk Engineering), our institute offers target-oriented courses which communicate methodical and social competence. A range of special courses serves the post-graduate education. The fair cooperation with both scientific and non-scientific institutions is an indispensable requirement for us. In a national context, we are available as an independent body for management and coordination of projects regarding natural hazard protection. In an international context, we see ourselves as a competent partner in the solution of all problems linked to alpine natural hazards. In order to assure the quality of our work we continuously inform ourselves internally about current activities and maintain high standards for the evaluation of these activities. The acceptance from respected granting agencies, the cooperation with well-known scientific partners and the joint execution of technical projects in the field illustrates the importance of our work. At any time we are open for external suggestions and criticism.
