StartClim2014.E: Weather-independent tourism offers based on nature experiences - Relevance and innovative developments
Abstract
Recent research, dealing with the most important segments of vacationists, consistently showed a high importance of nature experience and nature based tourism offers in summer. Well-conceived international offers (i.e. National Parks at Victoria Island, Canada), which need to deal with unfavorable weather conditions and high precipitation, show, that offers are not necessarily constrained by bad weather, but can constitute a unique charm if they are well designed. Against this background this study will review and compare weather-independent tourism offers based on nature experiences in Austria with international offers. Subsequently, new offers will be developed for this tourism sector and existing offers will be discussed with the Austrian Association of Hoteliers (ÖHV) during a workshop. The study evaluates, if these offers are implementable, if they properly address and include target groups, and if they create employment effects. Suitable product development measures will be prepared in a way that partners can implement them immediately. The results will be presented at a joint event.
