Fish screen for mowing boat
Abstract
Monitoring of the activities of mowing boats at the "Alte Donau" has shown that fish assemblages are highly influenced by these activities. Fish use dense submerse makrophytes as shelter and are partly removed with the cutting as the scaring effect by the boat itself is too little. Longlasting investigations led to the result that individual solutions, depending on the type of mowing boat, are needed for best protection of fish. Two prototypes were first tested in 2015 (compressed air-type and the Venturi-type) and have been successful in reducing the negative effects of fish removal. This project ("fish screen for mowing boats 2016) is financed by MA45 to install a fish screen on one of the mowing boats of the town of Vienna (boat "Floridsdorf").
