Criteria for the Approval of Interventions in Public Space: Simply Decide!
- Lebensraum und Landschaft
Abstract
The urban quality depends on interventions which complement standard facilities. Many of such interventions take place in the open spaces of the city, on squares, in streets. Sidewalks can be divided into zones of social activities: Edge Zone, Pedestrian Flow, Stationary and Social Activities (Mehta 2013 84f). Additional space can be used on the parking areas, which serve for interventions. These measures make the open spaces more lively, they allow for identification, enhance echange and make appropriation possible. Activities also change the apearance of the open spaces. These also applies to objects which are placed in order to be used for interventions. In order to judge temporary and permanent interventions in public space a concept will be elaborated, which makes approval/denial transparent, helps to decide efficiently and is applicable for all possible situations.
