Potential of public spaces
- Lebensraum und Landschaft
- Ressourcen und gesellschaftliche Dynamik
Abstract
In order to enhance streetscape's quality for public uses, qualities and potentials are elaborated. Modules are created to explain the multitude of activities in public spaces and to further understanding of streets beyond their traffic function. The analysis is based on graphic and ikonographic groups which can be transferred to other types of open spaces. Existing situations as well as favoured future situations can be described with the help of these moduls. Gender criteria or chronological changes (daytime) will be included. Spatial settings are considered as prerequisites for specific activities. Optional activities, necessary and social activities will be differentiated (Jan Gehl & Birgitte Svarre (2013): How to study public life. Washington et al., Island Press ).
