Abstract
The project investigates the discourse of floods and flood protection in Vienna in the period from 1785-1900. We use in particular daily and weekly journals as well as topographic literature to investigate how flood events were reported, which specific flood protection practices were promoted and how such practices and their appearance in media were linked to actual floods. The project is based on our projects ENVIEDAN and URBWATER. It will be performed in cooperation between BOKU and Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, Institute of Social Ecology.
