Abstract
While the effects of climate change are already being felt today, the risks to human health will increase in future. Possible negative consequences are further intensified by demographic change. But timely action also opens up opportunities for climate protection, health and quality of life (so called co-benefits). The scientific basis for this topic is comprehensively evaluated in the Special Report SR18. The SR18 is the first Special Report of the Austrian Panel on Climate Change (APCC) after the preparation of the Austrian Assessment Report on Climate Change (AAR14). The report aims to provide the climate policy debates with a reliable and solid foundation for legitimized and effictive action. The process is open to the entire Austrian research community as well as invites feedback from decision-makers of all relevant public and private sectors (politics, administration, business, education, NGOs, society, international experts). The APCC (Austrian Panel on Climate Change) checks compliance with the APCC quality standards and follows the review process, which is based on the IPCC.
