Life Cycle Assessment and energy payback of the Piggott DIY small wind turbine
Abstract
The small wind turbine 2FPiggott, which is built in the workshops hold by "pureselfmade", is analyzed in the present project. Using life cycle assessment as well as the energy payback time the energy efficiency is evaluated to be able to construct the turbine more resource friendly in the future and directly integrate scientific knowledge in the wind turbine construction workshops. The total energy input is considered in the project; this includes the production of all materials used as well as the recycling of the materials. It is identified, which materials cause the greatest amount of energy input and global warming potential and how they could be replaced in future workshops. The aim of the project is to close the production cycle (cradle to cradle), make the turbine as resource efficient as possible and integrate scientific knowledge about energy efficiency in future construction workshops of „pureselfmade“.
