Schachner SW5: Innovation possibilities in material use
Abstract
Schachner SW5: Innovation possibilities in material use The 5kW small wind turbine “Schachner SW5” will be analyzed regarding energy efficiency. First of all the cumulative amount of energy used within the whole life cycle of the turbine will be calculated: The material and energy used in production and installation, as well as the material and energy needed for recycling the turbine will be analyzed. Further the main drivers of energy use will be identified. Substitutes for these materials and processes will be considered. The project shall give answers to the following questions: Are small wind turbines, similar to the SW5, energy efficient? What is their contribution to CO2 reduction in energy production? What possibilities are present to build small wind turbines more efficient concerning energy efficiency and climate change?
