Sustainability evaluation of a multimodal mobility concept in the health care sector
Abstract
The project introduces a new mobility concept that consists of a driving service and an accompanying service that may also use public transport. The mobility concept supports people with special needs in their mobility and mobile care workers in performing their services. Demographic trends show that the number of people in both groups will increase in future. From a societal point of view there is a strong need to find sustainable paths to meet that rising demand. The project elaborates the details of the mobility concept and its sustainability indicators based on expert interviews and extensive literature analyses. To combine the planning of the driving service and the accompanying service, a metaheuristic robust solution method is developed. It extends classical routing problems by taking into account synchronization issues, time of the day dependency and stochastics. Moreover, it is necessary to deal with multiple objectives in order to obtain sustainable solutions. The developed solution procedure is tested with real-world based instances. A simulation environment is implemented to mimic uncertainty during the application of the mobility concept. It contributes to a further evaluation of the solution procedure and its results. The solutions are extensively analyzed with respect to their economic, ecological and social impact. A potential analysis describes the general requirements for an optimal application of the mobility concept and shows its advantages and risks.
