Smart wood manufacturing
Abstract
Recent advances in “Industry 4.0” enable new ways for applied research and problem solving in industrial manufacturing processes. However, for a successful implementation of Industry 4.0 in the wood industry, wood material science needs to be integrated from the very beginning. This is the main objective of the project “Smart wood manufacturing”. Especially, the project aims at investigating complex interactions in the manufacturing of renewables, intermediates and final wood products by applying “Industry 4.0” techniques. Tasks are based on fundamental experiences from former projects, such as simulations of material flows or process adaptations in real-time as well as developed processes in laboratory and pilot scale. In conclusion it is claimed that: innovative digital approaches of “Industry 4.0” enable the understanding of complex interactions between processing renewables and intermediate wood products at industrial and laboratory scale
