Alternative bonding
Abstract
Adhesives have played and will continuously play an important role in the efficient utilization of wood resources and in the development and growth of the forest products industry. Adhesive bonding of solid wood and wood particles of various sizes is the key factor for the production of modern, functional wood products, whether they are used for construction, furniture, or other applications. New challenges in wood bonding appear in the fields of avoiding formaldehyde and the usage of adhesive bonding in more critical applications. Continuous improvement of the complete adhesive system including process and adhesive modification, as well as the usage of additives. In conclusion it is claimed that fundamental understanding on adhesive adherent interaction enables the development of competitive alternative resins, reliable adhesion in critical applications, and knowledge-based engineering of adhesive properties.
