The influence of wood moisture content on the cutting process
- Nachwachsende Rohstoffe und neue Technologien
Abstract
Wood machining is influenced by the raw material, the machining as well as the process of cutting. In the past, main efforts have been undertaken to understand the wood cutting process to get suitable parameters to predict cutting forces especially for motor power prediction and mechanical design. Of less interest within this context was the influence of the moisture content on cutting performance, since usually wood is dried to a pre-defined moisture level, which varies only slightly, it is more or less a constant parameter for the cutting process. To get more general cutting models, knowledge on the influence of moisture content on cutting properties is required. This project deals with these topics.
