Abstract
Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) uses surplus energy (night period, solar and wind) to compress and store air, which can be released later to generate energy. Pile foundations under buildings provide attractive storage space for small facilities. The performance of such piles depends mainly on the behavior of the surrounding soil under thermal and mechanical loading. In this project, we will carry out numerical simulations on the pile performance by considering such soil behavior like anisotropy, over-consolidation and creep.
