Development and review of river engineering measures on the Ill river to minimize the negative ecological effects of hydropeaking
Abstract
The Ill river is characterized by an anthropogenically changed characteristic with regard to runoff behavior and seasonal runoff. The intensive use of hydropower, especially in the form of (pump) storage power plants, leads to strong water level fluctuations that occur several times a day. The degraded living conditions for (semi) aquatic organisms require hydraulic engineering adaptations to the prevailing hydrological - hydraulic conditions in order to comply with the requirements of the EU WFD and national legislation (NGP). The scientific development of suitable river engineering measures proposed in this project should take the complex hydrological situation in the catchment area into account and at the same time, the measures should meet the requirements of the legislation.
