International trends in EIA and SEA research and practice 2.0
Abstract
The international practice of environmental impact assessment is very extensive today. Innovation of methodological approaches and amendments of legal framing conditions are progresssing continuously. The focus of this research project is on the exchange of good practice, novel aspects as well as future challenges and corresponding innovative approaches as solutions. In particular, current challenges such as the consideration of climate change mitigation and adaptation, loss of biodiversity and land consumption, soil degradation and sealing in environmental assessments are important research topics. The project examines international trends, challenges and opportunities, which have also gained increased importance as a result of the pandemic, such as the use of digital media for public participation in environmental assessment procedures. For this purpose, a method mix of extensive literature analysis, interviews and criteria-based case study analysis is chosen, supported by an international expert board.
