Short-term and long-term effects of restoration measures on the metacommunity of floodplain systems near Vienna
Abstract
The research project contributes to the understanding of how changes in connectivity in floodplain systems affect the composition and diversity of species communities. In particular, it will be investigated how hydromorphological restoration measures affect habitat conditions, habitat connectivity and thus the biocoenosis of floodplains in the short and long term. The aims of the project are: -) Supplementation of existing data sets on the invertebrates of the Regelsbrunn Danube. -) Analysis and parameterisation of the habitat connectivity in the system as a function of hydrological connectivity. The following research questions are addressed: -) How do changes in hydrological connectivity affect the habitat connectivity in the system and how can these changes be quantified? -) How do changes in habitat conditions and habitat connectivity affect the invertebrate community of the system in the short and long term?
