Carbon capture potential of rock powder
Abstract
Artificially accelerated rock weathering is one of the strategies to reduce atmospheric CO2 presented by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in a special report published in 2018. However, the effectiveness of this strategy is highly dependent on the particular rock (mineralogy, chemism, grain size) as well as soil and climate conditions. Therefore, the aim of this project is to test and optimize the carbon capture potential of different rock powders, taking into account Austria's soil and climate conditions.
