Sequencing of hydrogenotrophic, anaerobic bacteria and archaeal taxa

Self-funded research project with the objective of a molecular genetic characterization of a microbial community originating from a subterranean natural gas reservoir. Based on amplicon and shotgun sequencing, as well as other analytical methods, the influence of hydrogen and carbon dioxide exposure on the development of the microbial population will be investigated. In addition to the high-resolution analysis of this extremophilic metagenome, new insights for the ongoing optimization of Geo-Methanation (e.g. the use of natural gas reservoirs as biotechnological methanation reactors for energy storage) will be gained.
