DigiLArchiv. A digital archive of Austrian landscape architecture
Abstract
The Archive of Austrian Landscape Architecture LArchiv secures Austria's landscape architectural heritage for the future. In line with this mission, comprehensive new and further developments in the field of digitization are planned. As a university archive, the Archiv Österreichischer Landschaftsarchitektur LArchiv preserves, in addition to thousands of photographs, around 12,000 plans, sketches and diagrams that document the design of our built environment of the 20th and early 21st centuries. This collection represents a unique, cultural heritage. The archive appeals to science, teaching, municipalities and citizens and is the basis for a wide range of collaborations, although it can currently only be used in analog form. The planned project will facilitate access to sources through the use of digital technologies in the context of the Digital Humanities and open up the Internet as an integral research and presentation space in landscape architecture. To this end, hardware and software for the creation of high-quality digital reproductions will be acquired and, in a first step, 1,530 plans will be digitized. In addition to the photographic imaging and cataloging of objects, a publicly accessible online collection will be created. A central goal of the project is the creation and ongoing curation of an online platform and thus a presentation and mediation of the digital inventory for research, teaching and the public. The transferability of the data to the online platform on Austria's cultural heritage and to Europeana will be ensured.
