24h Austria: Optionspace for a healthy and climatefriendly living during the course of a day in urban and rural areas
Abstract
How climate-friendly and health-promoting everyday actions are depends not only on the behavior of each individual, but also on the conditions in which everyday actions take place. This means that the concrete structures in the respective fields of action, such as mobility, set the framework for climate-friendly and health-promoting everyday actions. Within the framework of the project, scientific information is to be developed that shows the scope for action and design of healthy and climate-friendly everyday actions. Both behavior (actions) and conditions (design), which can offer or limit possibilities in everyday life, will be considered. The objective is to identify and quantify the CO2 emissions resulting from an average daily routine in urban and rural areas in Austria. In addition, particularly health-promoting and climate-friendly as well as particularly unhealthy and climate-damaging daily activities are to be combined and evaluated over the course of the day. For each of the three scenarios, the following aspects are to be elicited or discussed: - CO2 footprint - health effects - Behavioral and proportional aspects Building on time use and consumption survey data for Austria, the average CO2 footprint as well as health effects (DALYs) will now be calculated for groups of people in urban and rural areas. In a second step, climate-friendly and healthy (+) as well as unhealthy and climate-damaging (-) scenarios are developed for both urban and rural conditions and linked to the CO2 intensities of the assumed everyday actions. For all three scenarios, both the behavioral and the relationship aspects are discussed to show the respective scope for action or design. Products are a graphically prepared report, a PPT presentation and a fact sheet.
