Suspended sediments in flowing water bodies - Update of the Guidleline
- Landschaft, Wasser, Lebensraum und Infrastrukturen
Abstract
The aim of the project is to update the existing Austrian guideline "Suspended sediments in flowing waters bodies - Guideline for the determination of suspended sediment transport". The guideline for the determination of quantitative suspended sediment transport is binding for the monitoring stations of the hydrographic service in Austria concerning the methodology, the monitoring strategy, the suspended sediment measurement itself, as well as the processing and interpretation of the data. Thus, quality-assured and uniformly collected data of suspended sediment concentration and transport can be published and made available for the investigation of manifold problems. Since the publication of the current edition of the guideline in 2017, some standards relevant in connection with the collection of suspended sediment transport have been revised. In addition, there are new findings from (inter-) national studies that are available in the form of publications. Therefore, a literature study on suspended sediment monitoring will be conducted in the research project and these results will be incorporated into the new edition of the guideline. Some of the examples contained in the guideline are still from the first years of measurement. Therefore, an update of these examples is aimed at. Furthermore, there are new findings from the measurement operation, which are also to be included in the new edition. As part of the research project, the guideline will be updated to incorporate new scientific findings and translated into English due to international collaboration and interest from abroad.
