Abstract
This research study aims at the improvement of applied avalanche forecasting techniques as well as at the development of new forecasting methods. On the basis of extensive statistical analysis and by the application of discriminant- and cluster analysis good results were achieved. The best ones however derived from Neural Network (Multilayer Perceptions). 80 % of the days with avalanche activity could be prognosticated correctly with an error rate of only 30 %.
