Generic safety analysis of a potential repository for radioactive waste in Austria

The disposal of nuclear waste represents a complex and long-term challenge for the present and numerous future generations. In this project, an analysis for a potential near-surface repository for LILW (low and intermediate level waste) in Austria is carried out in order to derive criteria for activity concentrations of radioisotopes suitable for such a surface repository. For this purpose, very generic scenarios are elaborated and as few restrictive site characteristics as possible are assumed. The analysis is conducted in a conservative and limiting manner.
