Scientific basis for the feasibility studies of hydropeaking at the Bregenzerach and Ill river

The remediation of hydropeaking in Austrian watercourses is one of the central challenges for the implementation of the European Water Framework Directive in the field of hydropower. The aim of this research project is to investigate the framework conditions on the Ill and Bregenzerach rivers (Vorarlberg) in order to achieve the best possible implementation and fulfillment of the objectives. Intensive field work will be carried out in order to gain a deeper understanding of the processes in the two watercourses. Numerical modeling will then be used to evaluate different options for indirect measures in an integrative methodological approach.
