A regionalized and just energy transition for Europe: Assessing social-ecological potentials and barriers

duration 01.09.2025 to- 31.08.2026
Abstract
The Seed Funding project REGENERATE will bring together six interdisciplinary early-career researchers from three different EPICUR universities and one external research partner to investigate how the EU can harmonize its ambitious goals of achieving an energy transition phasing out fossil fuels, while bolstering regional supply chains through onshoring of production and resource extraction, and also re-naturalizing domestic ecosystems. Regional differences in population density, income, and environmental protection standards can lead to social resistance and environmental inequality.
