COIN 2.0 – Societal Cost of Inaction: Exposure
Abstract
Climate change is already incurring significant costs for the public sector in Austria, for example through damage and adaptation measures. The first COIN study quantified potential annual climate-related costs across all sectors at over €5 billion by the middle of the century, but also highlighted considerable uncertainties. Since then, models and data bases have been further developed in all impact areas. COIN 2.0 aims to consistently consolidate these advances and, using up-to-date methodological approaches – such as distribution effects, scenario building and knowledge synthesis – to assess the economic impacts of climate change in a more informed and policy-relevant manner. The sub-project deals with changes in the exposure of buildings and their economic assessment.
