Protein expression in different Bacillaceae with emphasis on S-layer glycoprotein biosynthesis. (H-00199/98)
Abstract
Glycosylation of S-layer proteins is a common feature among thermophilic Bacillaceae. However, during continuous cultivation of S-layer glycoprotein producing strains frequently a loss of glycosylation was observed. Detailed analysis of this phenomenon using genetic, taxonomic and biochemical methods shall define mechanisms for the change of the phenotype of these strains. As a result the control of the glycosylation process may provide S-layer glycoproteins suitable for biomedicine and biotechnology.
