WLS Report 49-b: Protection-water-engineering concept for the lower reaches of the torrents Wartschenbach, Dorfbach and Zwieslingbach, on behalf of the BMLF
Abstract
In the context of the available project the water-management situation is treated with attention to the handling of floods by the torrents Wartschenbach, Dorfbach and Zwieslingbach draining into the valley-ground of the municipality Nussdorf/Debant. In their meaning in the project as equivalently regarded torrents, to date no natural receiving-stream possesses. The events of 1997 caused substantial damage to property in the settlement area. Discharge conditions within the valley area, both the torrents and the surface-water from the settlement area are unresolved and with increasing of settlement are continued to intensify. In order to protect the valley-space Nussdorf/Debant against flooding, the aim of this study are to find-out the formation and appropriateness of a flood-control reservoir for all project torrents by a study of alternative designs. For this purpose the following indexing steps had to be executed: 1.) Adjustment of the created hydrologic model for the Wartschenbach- torrent according to the measures of the WLV in the meantime (retarding basins at the Zettersfeld) 2.) Creation of a hydrologic model for the basins of the three project torrents with the design storms according to "Hydrologische Studie Wartschenbach: Niederschlag-Abfluss-Simulation zur Dimensionierung der Rückhaltebecken am Zettersfeld" (WLS-Report 19) and under consulting of a precipitation model according to LORENZ SKODA (2000). 3.) Estimate of the quantity of surface-water in the settlement area 4.) Development of proposals for solution for the reduction of the total discharge of the three partial catchment areas on the admissible discharge of 4 m¿/s 5.) To provide an indication of the influence of the groundwater situation to the situation in the settlement area 6.) Formulation of notes for environmental planning and maps of hazard zones in the project area.
