Fundamentals of wood machining.
Abstract
Here the fundamentals for a high-quality and effective machining of wood and wood based products are investigated. The specific material and process parameter which mostly influence the machining quality and the energy consumption are evaluated using testing methods adopted from material science and also some newly developed testing methods. The emphasis is on the determination of fracture mechanical properties (fracture energy and toughness) and measurements of cutting forces in dependence of the density gradient within the composites.
