Comparative overview of Austrian and EU landfill legislation.

The Austrian Landfill Ordinance (1996) is compared in tabular form with the Council Directive on the Landfill of Waste regarding their protection goals. In the following these protection goals are discussed with emphasis on the following topics: Landfill types, separate disposal, Principles of waste assessment, Authorized and inauthorized waste types, Temporary arrangements for the landfilling of biologically degradable wastes, Waste assessment and waste acceptance criteria especially total concentrations of pollutants as assessment criteria against proposals of the CEN regarding the leachability of wastes, Waste identity check, Affiliated methods of examination. Finally, the correspondence of the Austrian Landfill Ordinance with the Council Directive on the Landfill of Waste regarding the protection goals is assessed.
