Comparison of the total fish stock in 8 rivers in Lower Austria
Abstract
Aim of the study is a comperative quantitative sampling of the fish communities in 8 rivers Lower-Austrian rivers. The project is financed by the " Österreichische Fischereigesellschaft ". During 2000/2001 in total 28 stretches at the rivers Fischa, Große and Kleine Erlauf, Natters, Pielach, Schwarza, Weiten and Große Krems are sampled using the electro-fishing method as it was described by DeLury. The sampling survey is an repeat order and was performed by the Department of Hydrobiology, Fisheries and Aquaculture during 1977 to 1979 for the first time. Repeating this study 20 years later is interesting in several respects. On the one hand we are able to compare the results and grasp the succession of the fish-stock within the last 2 decades. On the other hand we can derive general recommendations for sustainable, ecological oriented stock management.
