Enzymes and precursors in the biosynthetic assembly route of the S-layer glycan from Bacillus thermoaerophilus DSM 10155. (H-00109/97)
Abstract
S-layer glycans,various aspects, resemble the carbohydrate part of lipopolysaccharides of Gram-negative bacteria. From detailed biosynthetic studies on S-layer glycans, carried out with Bacillus thermoaerophilus DSM 10155, information about the degree of simi-larity of involved enzymes and intermediates shall be obtained. Based on the mechanism of S-layer glycan biosynthesis precisely defined modifications of the glycan chains will be possible, which implies diverse applications in biotechnology and biomedicine.
