WLS Report 54: Basis to the risk management with flood events in the bottom of the valley of Haßbach, on behalf of the Forest Technical Service¿s authority of Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland
Abstract
The Haßbach, with a catchment area of approximately 30 km¿, flows into its receiving stream, the Pitten in the municipality Warth (district Neunkirchen). During flood events the Haßbach overflows its banks and floods the valley area. In the past these floods caused damages in the settlement-, the traffic- and the agriculturally used areas. The natural retention space is constantly reduced with increasing settlement pressure. The limited funds are to be used by ecological and economic criteria. Since so far a collective view of the valley area of the Haßbach is missing, this deficit is to become balanced. For future measures, a suitable decision basis for both water - protection and regional planning is to be made available. The outcome of this is a general protection concept, which again represents an important constituent of a risk management plan. The slab slides at terrace edges, examined in the volume 3, represented in as much a increase of the level of knowledge as this slip form was analyzed for the first time. Out of that knowledge the development-causes as well as the release conditions were derived.
