Avalanche informationsystem Salzkammergut
Abstract
The aim of the project is to analyse the information available from the forest technical service for torrent and avalanche control on the basis of an avalanche data base, i.e. avalanche cataster, project data, hazard map etc, as well as to put it in relation to the weather data and to work it up for a temporary hazard assessment. For the first time, this will allow for a link to be established between the chronicle data and a present avalanche hazard situation. Criteria will be put forward so as to support evacuations, road closings, as well as other temporary measures more efficiently. In the event of a whole village area being in danger, it aims at describing which avalanche paths are especially hazardous in relation to the weather situation, the structure of the snow layer, as well as the relief of the terrain, and which ¿on the same criteria- are less dangerous. The forestry service for torrent and avalanche defence could provide new information and support the local avalanche committees more actively in the event of a critically hazardous situation.
