Abstract

Benchmarking as an instrument for comparison of specific cost and technical values shows costsaving potentials to come to least-cost solutions and to create a quasi competitive situation in public sector. This management -tool has been installed in Austrian waste water management. The Operators can use an internet platform for a continous comparison. The Institute for Sanitary Engineering has the technical responsibility for the part of the sewage systems from tendering the platform over defining the benchmarks and care for the participants.
