UNESCO-FRIEND Low Flow Meeting
Abstract
The annual meeting of the UNESCO Northern European FRIEND Low flow group will be held from 22 to 24 April 2005 at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). FRIEND (Flow Regimes from International Experimental and Network Data) activities are part of the so-called "cross-cutting theme" of the UNESCO IHP-VI program. Local organizers are the Institute of Applied Statistic (IASC) at the Department of Landscape, Spatial and Infrastructure Sciences and the Institute of Water Management (IWHW) at the BOKU Department Water, atmosphere and environment. The objectives of the meeting are: i) to present recent research on low flow and drought ii) to identify gaps in our current knowledge on low flow and drought iii) to define future outlook, including proposals for cooperation and joint research activities Totally 20 participants from 8 countries will contribute to the meeting through presentations, discussions and by compiling session reports. A summary report will be written as a contribution to the UNESCO IHP-VI program on "Hydrological Extremes" (Theme 2, Focal Area 2.1).
