A Survey of Home-Composting in Selected Communities of the AWS and an Estimation of the Potential to Reduce Biological Substances in Residual Waste

The aim of this project is to provide a database for measures to reduce the amount of biological matter in residual waste and to estimate the resulting reduction potential due to these measures. In all households without a bio bin (about 500) an inspection is done including a short questionnaire and a triage of the compost heap as well as the residual waste bin. Additionally a residual waste sorting is carried out on samples from household with bio bin, households without bio bin but a demonstrable compost heap, and households with neither a bio bin nor a compost heap.
