Abstract
A drive for quality in the production of the ALMO ox program is presently the goal of a mutual project of the foundation for animal protection, VIER PFOTEN, the Styrian Almo Ox Society and the SCHIRNHOFER GmbH. This includes the following duties: The drafting of ox husbandry guidelines in agreement with the project partners. The development and design of a checklist for the improvement of the husbandry on ALMO ox farms in cooperation with the project partners. The actual improvement of the husbandry on ALMO ox farms with the use of the checklist and ANI (Animal Needs Index) evaluation of ox-keeping according to ANI 35L/1996–cattle (originally German TGI 35L/1996-Rinder). Assessment of the data collected as regards conformity with guidelines, the inference of advisory recommendations and suggested measures in order to attain guideline goals as well as the documentation of production quality within the production group, ALMO. The project partners have set clear goals in connection with the project at hand. The data will serve the ALMO production group as a source of information on the status quo of production quality, will provide transparency in the production quality and serve as a basis for specific quality management measures. SCHIRNHOFER GmbH, can then, through the improvement and transparency in production, further raise the niveau previously attained as regards quality management and assurance. The foundation for animal protection, VIER PFOTEN, has its focus within this project on the assessable improvement of the living conditions of large animals. The documentation of the scientific work involved is in essence the evaluation of the project procedure and its goals.
