Abstract
Balanites aegyptiaca is an important multi-purpose tree (incl. food, feed, soil amelioration, firewood, wood, medicine, pesticide) from the dry areas of Sudan and other countries in northern central Africa. Recultivation and planting depends on successful establishment and the seedlings' toleranct to salt and drought stress. Seeds from various provenances will be germinated and growth and physiological response of plants subjected to various stresses will be compared.
