Abstract
The number of over night stays in the Austrian summer tourism is marked by the market segments city tourism, congress-/conference-/ fair tourisms, spa/health tourism, holidays in climatic spas and health resorts, lake tourism, Danube tourism, tourism in natural sanctuaries, tourism along the traditional wine routes, countryside holidays (non-alpine regions) or mountain/ alpine tourism. The tourist activities which are specific for a segment and bound to its landscape are strongly dependant of the current climatic conditions. The market segments are therefore affected by climatic changes in varying degrees. The question which is to be followed is how the most important specific market segments could develop, with their varying travel motives and their differentiated range of nature-consuming summer tourism holiday activities. On the basis of regional climatic scenarios the sensitivity of the main market segments is to be analysed in regard of the climatic change and an estimation is to be conducted of the possible extent of the direct and indirect effects.
