Abstract
In the context of the geological surveying, the map sheet “Freilassing” of the Geological Map of Bavaria 1:25.000 is to be mapped new. The principal is the Bavarian Environment Agency (LfU), Department of Geological and Pedological Survey South (Mr. Dipl.-Geol. Dr. rer. nat. Ulrich Haas). The dominating stones of the mapping area are unconstrained sediments of the Salzach glacier, that have been deposited during the ice age (Quaternary). On the one hand, it is the intention of the present project, to map the near-surface geology of the sheet “Freilassing” by modern methods. This is a precondition for a sustainable use of the resource “soil” and is used as planning basis in the fields of drinking water supply, raw materials production and increasingly by geothermal energy. On the other hand, the annotations of the map should include statements about the development of the quaternary sediments in the mapping area, as well. For that purpose, modern dating methods (luminescence-method) as well as geophysical measurements will be applied. First, existing data will be gathered and analysed. Here, geological maps, drilling results as well as already described geological outcrops in the mapping area are meant. In addition, a comprehensive survey of geological outcrops in the mapping area will happen. Small handdrillings and the construction of a larger research drilling are planned. The survey in the terrain takes place digitally by the help of a tablet computer and is geared to the surveying methods of the LfU. Thus, the integration of the mapped data points into the Bavarian Soil-Information-System (BIS) and the compability to other map sheets are assured.
