Abstract
This project will provide a better understanding of the global economic crisis’ impact on wood biomass supply in Austria. Changes in supply can be manifold. Sawmill industries might supply less residues due to consolidation and lower production. This may also lead to lower harvesting rates as saw log prices have been found to be a major factor for wood supply. In contrast the demand of wood for energy is more influenced by policy goals than by economic developments. Hence wood availability for energy production may be at risk. To investigate possible future developments a Delphi study will be conducted. Data, insights and findings will be incorporated into an existing simulation model of the Austrian forest sector (FOHOW). Results will provide forest based industries, utilities and policy makers with valuable information.
