Integrated Landscape Prognosis under the Influence of Climate change
Abstract
It is expected that climate change will affect the various agro-economically determined use patterns significantly. Based on the assumption that farmers are the crucial decision makers when it comes to the implementation of climate change policy, this project will develop an integrated model of farmer behaviour that considers possible future scenarios of various climate regimes, varying socio-economic conditions and different policy regimes. Thus, this project addresses the following research gaps and uncertainties: - How does an individual agricultural operation (farm) perceive climate change and the associated possible advantages and disadvantages with regards to the cultivation of crops and other land use options? - To what extent will farmers adopt new agro-economic options, or to what extent will other influencing factors prevail, such as traditional use patterns, time budget, and the policy frame-work, esp. financial incentives? - To what extent are the concerns of tourism and conservation experts justified who are concerned about climate change induced changes to the landscape such as monocultures, new products or new structures? In other words, under which conditions can one expect measurable effects of landscape change on ecosystem services? - Can recommendations be made with regards to the various agricultural policies in general and financial incentives in particular?
