Abstract
The renaissance of the (European) city in the 21st century is discussed intensively by urban researchers and mostly the metropolises and large cities are in the focus of the deliberations. But also Small Towns face many socio economic challenges and changes in their settlement structures, their options and resources to adress them are usually much more limited though. This project "Small Towns in Transition" will analyze these transformation processes in the example of small towns in Upper Austria and will give answers how to reach a sustainable development.
