Floral variants of shepherd’s purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) in Vienna

Abstract
With regard to speciation processes in plant populations, the investigation of naturally occurring variation is of high evolutionary importance. In this context, a floral variant of shepherd´s purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) was chosen as a promising model to evaluate involved processes. This variant has been described for Vienna and surroundings about 200 years ago. The recent distribution in this area will be documented in floristic surveys. Furthermore, the project aims to investigate whether there is any genetic differentiation among the floral variant and wild-type of Capsella bursa-pastoris detectable.
