Cause analysis and analysis of the functional chains of recent soil erosion increases in areas between the high montane and the subalpine altitudinal belt at specific test sites of Western Austria
Abstract
The project investigates the combination of factors causing the increase of soil erosion on woodless sites in alpine catchments from the high montane to the alpine zone in western Austria. - Investigation of the combination of factors causing the increase of soil erosion on woodless sites in alpine catchments from the high montane to the alpine zone in western Austria. - Improvement of understanding of the processes running and quantification of potential of future development of soil erosion potential under the aspect of changing climate conditions (i.e. increase of meteorological extremes, changes in the conditions when the sites become snowfree, cumulation of ground avalanches, etc.) - Development of approaches for diagnosis and prognosis of soil erosion development. Early detection of instable hillsides is a central aspect of hazard prevention. - Construction of a basis for derivation / adaptation/ development of simple, economic and though durable stabilization methods for practitioners - Discussion of the necessary or acceptable amount of soil erosion in alpine catchments.
