Doctoral School Sustainable Development II - to be defined
Abstract
Land use is and will continue to be significantly influenced by global changes. In my doctoral project, I will assess how agricultural land users can respond to these challenges and utilize opportunities sustainably. Particularly, I will focus on global change factors such as climate change, agricultural policies and globalization of agricultural markets. Technological change and societal demands will also be addressed, but to a smaller extent. The aim of my research is to identify possible adaptation and mitigation measures and to assess their performance according to sustainability indicators, e.g. profitability, cost-effectiveness, water pollution, GHG emissions, landscape amenities, biodiversity, and employment opportunities. An integrative modeling framework will be developed and applied in this analysis. This framework integrates outputs from climate change models and bio-physical process models into an economic spatially explicit land use optimization model.
